The Carroll Daily Times Herald, Carroll, Iowa, August 10, 2010 Mass of the Christian burial for Donna Marie Schettler was this morning, Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. Donna, 78, died Thursday, Aug. 5, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. The Rev. John J. Gerald presided at the services. Lector was Mike Frischmeyer. Gift bearers were Irma Frischmeyer, Irene Reynolds, Joan Danzer and Ruth Mescher. Eucharistic ministers were Carol Tigges, Linda Danzer and Kelly Foley. Casket bearers were Mike Frischmeyer, Myron Danzer, Ken Danzer, David Mescher, Pat Mescher and Nick Mescher. Burial was at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Mount Carmel. Ohde Twit Funeral Home in Carroll was in charge of arrangements. Donna Marie, daughter of Eugene and Clara (Stork) Schettler, was born Nov. 9, 1931 at Carroll. She attended grade school in Breda and Mount Carmel then received her Bachelor of Science degree in education from Viterbo College with the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in La Crosse, Wis. Donna taught school in Wisconsin from 1954 to 1959 and in Omaha and Council Bluffs from 1960 to 1965. In 1965 she returned to Carroll where she worked at Carroll Laundry until 1977. Donna then worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Anthony Nursing Home until her retirement in 1997. Donna was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Spirit Guild, Legion of Mary and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was a former Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion as well as a member of the Holy Spirit Adult Choir and Funeral Choir. Donna was an Oblate of St. Benedict affiliated with Mount Michael Abbey in Elkhorn, Neb., and in 1992 she received a certificate for participating in the six core theology courses of the Church Ministries Program. In February 2005, she became a resident of St. Anthony Nursing Home. Donna is survived by her siblings, Irma Frischmeyer of Fort Dodge, Irene Reynolds of Omaha, Neb., Edwin Schettler of Emmetsburg, Joan Danzer and husband Ed of Carroll, Ruth Mescher and husband Paul of Manning, Elmer Schettler and wife Ann of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Melvin Schettler and wife Barb of West Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law Lawrence Frischmeyer and Robert Reynolds; niece Diane Frischmeyer Ross; and a nephew, Jamie Danzer.
